Bassenfell Manor http://www.bassenfell.org.uk/ The latest news from Bassenfell Manor Christian Centre Bassenfell Community Worker (Outdoor Activities) http://www.bassenfell.org.uk/news/12 This is an exciting new role for an Outdoor Activities Instructor with a heart for sharing the Christian faith and receiving training to develop their ministry and skills. As well as instructing groups that are residential at Bassenfell Manor, the aim of the post is to take the ministry of Bassenfell Manor into the local community, by offering outdoor activities to local schools and churches. Initially a two year contract, the Bassenfell Community Worker (BCW) will be required to undertake the North West Ministry Training Course (which runs one day per week for thirty weeks) and other training/assessment in outdoor activity leadership. The BCW will organise their own accommodation in a local town/village and have their own transport.

Wood Burning Boiler Project http://www.bassenfell.org.uk/news/11 A boiler house and fuel bunker is being built to house a woodchip boiler system. This will replace our existing oil boilers and will provide central heating and hot water for the whole Manor.

Advantages of the new woodfuel system:

·         The system will be fully automated with the wood chips mechanically fed into the boiler when required.

It will have all the features of a modern gas or oil heating system and will be highly efficient and smokeless, only producing a small amount of ash.

·         The system will be carbon neutral as the carbon dioxide released when burning the wood is balanced by that absorbed during the tree growth.

·         The woodchip fuel will be delivered by a local business and sourced from Cumbrian forests. So we will be supporting the local economy as well as using a sustainable fuel source.

·         At present, woodchips cost 68% of the price of oil. But in the future we may make much greater savings as oil supplies run low.

We are grateful to the Bio-energy Capital Grants Scheme, Bassenthwaite Reflections and the Christian Outdoor Pursuits Trust who are funding this project
